# Station users (shared workstation accounts)

## Set up shared accounts for kiosks and common workstations

**Available only if station users are enabled for your organization.** If you don't see **Manage Station User** next to Add User, contact Lab Symplified support to ask about it.

A station user is a shared account for a common workstation or kiosk, such as a supply room computer where many staff check items in and out. It isn't tied to one person.

### What station users can do

Station users are limited to everyday inventory tasks:

- Check in items
- Check out items
- View inventory
- Request items

They can't access administration or management features. Station users don't use roles; you choose their permissions directly.

### Before you create one

Activity performed on a station user is **not tracked to an individual**. Every action is recorded under the station's name. Confirm this fits your lab's compliance and traceability requirements before you set one up.

If you need to know who checked out each item, give staff their own accounts. For email-and-password organizations with QR code sign-in enabled, badge-and-PIN sign-in is nearly as fast as a shared station.

### Create a station user

1. Go to **User Management** and select **Manage Station User** (next to **Add User**).
2. Enter the **station name**, **username**, and **password**. Username needs to be in a email format that has your company domain. Email does not need to be a active email address.
3. Select the permissions: **Allow Check-In**, **Allow Check-Out**, **Allow Requesting Order**, and **View Inventory**. Select **Tech Access** to turn them all on at once.
4. Save.

### Signing in on a station

Staff sign in with the station's username and password. This works the same whether or not your organization uses single sign-on.
